Mayordomo News - Spring 2020

Ditch needs cleaningCall before you water

We are quickly approaching the time that water will stop flowing over the top of the dam and the Irrigation District will limit the flow of water to 3 days per week. At that time it is more important than ever to call before you irrigate.
By calling first you ensure that you and all parciantes will get their share of water. So please be a good parciante and call 927-4740 before watering. Thanks.

Peones Needed

It is time for the annual task of cleaning and repair of the acequias for the upcoming irrigation season. My plans are as they have been for the last three years as Mayordomo which is to start the annual cleaning of the Acequias in February in order to be able to start water flowing in March. No specific date has been set as of yet. Weather permiting I would like to start the cleaning as close as possible to the week beginning February 16th, 2020 . As you may know I am always looking for good peones

If you are interested in working with me cleaning the acequias please call at 927-4740.

Peone Requirements:

Maintain ditch area

Growth around the ditch, especially trees, is causing damage to the acequias. Roots and tree trunks encroach on the ditch boundaries causing serious damage as illustrated in the photos below.

Please clear trees and debris where the ditch runs through your property. Thanks.

Water Usage

I would like to remind everyone of the requirements for water use:

  • Your water rights should be registered with the State Engineers Office, Santa Cruz Irrigation District and the Acequias de La Puebla. Please Click Here for information to help you with water rights registration.
  • Dues and assessments must be paid in full.
  • Call 927-4740 before drawing water from the Acequia. Calling is required for any water use, by any means, (compuerta, pump, etc.), for any amount of time. If no answer then leave a message. I will call back ASAP. Thanks.
